Ice fishing guys, help me out here please. I want to order some Scenic Tackle Glow Devils from B FISH N Tackle. I see they come in three sizes. What do you think is going to give me the most versitility for jigging Perch and Walleyes? I’ll be ice fishing Okoboji and Spirit Lake Iowa.

    Thanks in advance, Wade

    Wade,

Personally I use the 1/4 oz for most of my perch and walleye fishing. The larger size keeps the smaler fish from hitting them hence allowing the larger fish to reach the bait. I prefer to tip them with just the head of a minnow. The minnow head adds to the smell and the blood red hooks add to the attraction.

    Good Luck

Before there ever was a 1/4 ounce version I used the 1/8 ounce all the time. So, now that there is a 1/16 and a 1/4 ounce I still use the 1/8 ounce.LOL When something is working why change, right?

On the River, you may need to use the heavier 1/4 ounce if you are fishing any of the current areas. I know Adam and I use the 1/4 ounce when we fish below the Dam in Sartell and the extra weight is needed to keep the spoon under your flasher.

Overall the 1/8 ounce will meet all your needs- Perch, Walleye & Crappie. The bigger and smaller spoons all have there place and are more situational spoons for me….I use them in certain situations. With that being said, I will still carry all 3 sizes.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I think I’ll take the middle road and go with the 1/8 ounce size for now and eventually get all three sizes.

    Thanks,

    Wade

Mike at B Fish N Tackle now has all sizes of Glow Devils in stock and he has more on the way. I will try to stay ahead of him to make sure he can keep getting them out ASAP.

Guys, these are awesome lures!! Most of the fish I caught last winter came on Glow Devils.
I remember the first time I used one (1/8th oz all glow red) My buddy and I were having a tough time catching perch on Winnie using the regular old jigs so I decided to tie on one of the new Glow Devils I had picked up. Well, I had 5 perch on the ice before my buddy knew what was going on. I had a 1/4 oz perch Devil with me and he tied that on and had the same success – fish after fish!! We took a nice bucket off the lake that day including eyes and my first ever eelpout! Now, I always have a glow devil tied on a pole!!

I can’t wait to try out the new 1/16 oz sizes this winter. Be sure to get yours and show your fishing buddies how to catch fish!

Now thats the kind of report I like to hear as I bought both the 1/8th oz. and 1/4 oz. sizes of lures. And with the colder weather that is coming there should be some ice making nights ahead shortly. Thanks, Bill
