Curious if anyone has tried dead ciscos/smelt/herring for pike in lakes that do not contain this type of forage with fair amount of success? Looking to experiment this winter on a litte 40 acre pond loaded with smaller pike and larger (10″-14″) perch.

Good action for the kids that’s for sure!

    Thanks in advance.

I’ve used Smelt a few times, and have had about 50/50 success … JUST WEAR RUBBER GLOVES that stuff will leave a stink for DAYS!!!!

Had luck with smelt for pike in the summer on a real shallow lake.

when I use them in the winter I put them about 2 feet under the ice and have had my best luck there. even in 15 feet. Just need to be around the weeds where they hang.

Did any of these lakes have a “natural source” of this type of bait? I’ve used each of those for pike on LOTW late in the season but never on a lake that didn’t have that type of forage in it.

    Thanks again!
