Do you replace with the Hot Sauce grease or oil?
    Or do you use both?

Oil only. Don’t need much on there.

    Jon’s right on.

Grease is your enemy in the winter. Keeps everything continually lubricated in the summer, but gets gummy in cold temps.

My goal on any of my ice reels is to remove visible grease, replace with oil. Keep in mind if you use your reels heavily, you should re-oil at least once every other season, probably once pre-season.

When testing a new reel, it goes in the freezer for a few hours. It’s been my experience that it’s difficult to rescue a reel that performs poorly after this test, even if you take it apart and remove as much grease as possible. Better off starting with a higher end reel like the shimanos or ticas and taking care of them.
