    thanks,

I have driven by there the last couple of days, and I see a fair amount of people just to the north of the bridge

The small bay at the Wagon Bridge always freezes first, with sunnies and a few small crappies in there. GOCATFISH checked the ice around Lord’s Island, and it is NOT safe yet. Of course, we’re waiting for the first knucklehead to drive out at sportman landing on the north end, and get his 15 minutes of fame on the local news.

I walked out from sportsman’s this afternoon. 5+ inches of good clear ice. We had a field day with the crappies! in 4 hours we had a 2man limit plus an eye

Sorry no pictures. I forgot the camera at home. I’m going to try to get out tomorrow again, If I do I’ll try to remember it.

The bite was odd for me. We spent the afternoon focusing on jigging spoons. It was a harder task for my partner than me as he didn’t have a flasher. We used a combination of forage minnows and frostees, all were 1/8th ouce’rs.

The fish were definitely schooled up and it didn’t take long to find them. VERY aggressive jigging was important. We were using 3-4 foot jig strokes up, then let it free fall back down. The fish would shoot up to it on the fall and when we picked the rod up they would be there.

Our best colors for the day were the blue forage minnows and the perch frostees. Tipping them with minnow heads was the best but waxies worked good too, the bait had to be big, using 3-5 waxies was about right.

I launched out of sportsmans. I was fishing 21 ft deep, but the fish were suspended anywhere from 1 to 6 feet off the bottom. walleye are few and far between in that area, at least for me.

I’ve heard that Paradise cove, it’s way on the north end somewhere is producing some good numbers of eyes.
