Last Friday me and a buddie skipped work to try and find some slob perch. At 5:30 we pulled out and headed to an area that had produced fish in previous years but I hadn’t tried it ice fishing. We get set up and jumped around in depths from 8-14′ Needless to say it was gonna be one of those tough morning bites. Pete and I started going through the tackle trying different jigs about 10 each it seemed. A fella could bring em’ in but getting a strike was difficult. The best jig for me ended up being a sparkle pink lil cecil with just one hook and a minnow head. I ended up the day with 2 of the 3 over the 12″ mark. Pete took over in the afternoon with a green moonglow tipped with waxie which also scored a tier one perch. I eventually switched up with a glow lil cecil and caught a few more. To our surprise in the afternoon a flag appeared and at the other ended was a beautiful 33″ pike. Overall it was a great day on the ice, but one had to really work at getting strikes.
