With the snow on the way for this evening, Justin and I knew that today would be a good day to capitalize on an opportunity to catch some nice fish that would be actively feeding before the “mini” storm that we were going to get tonight.

we were on the ice at 6:30 and our gameplan was to fish the top of a point that comes up to about 8 feet out of 20+. That was a bust, so we instead hopped around chasing crappies hovering above brush piles for the rest of the day. the result was a few nice crappies, and a hole lot of suspended bluegills. Some of them were nice, but none were real bruisers. All in all, we caught around 25-30 keeper fish, and kept the medium sized fish for a fish fry. We had a good time stretching our lines out on some pretty quality fish and it felt good putting together a solid deal that worked the entire day.

The baits we used were mostly swedish pimples or forage minnows jigged agressively in the 2 ft off bottom range. That produced a lot of our larger bluegills, but when a mark came storming in 5-10 feet off the bottom, we were sure to investigate on what that fish was using a waxie or spike seemed to help at times with the number of fish we caught today, but often times we got away with no meat whatsoever. Lindy fatboys and plastic, diamond jigs, and gill pills were also used to trick the crappies and gills into biting. Another highlight was a 2-1/4 lb bass that nailed a forage minnow early in the morning
