Had a chance to finally get out and check the ice in the Bagley area today.
I met Jay (TJ91) at 7:00am at a very familiar pond that was producing good catches of gills and crappies.
A very brisk walk(ok,we were running ) as the temps were below zero. Being the first ones there we quickly drilled some holes through 4 inches of solid ,clear ice. I wish there was a better base with all of the snow on top (and plenty more on it’s way) but if you stick to the FAMILIAR areas things are in pretty good shape.
The gills cooperated all day but the small to keeper ratio was a little tough. Nice gills however were taken on a variety of baits with orange-chartreuse moon-glos being my standout jig. Waxies or spikes worked well but with my hands growing numb as the morning went on,the tough little spikes were easier to work with .

Walked off the ice with 15 quality gills and a few crappies all coming out of 4ft.of water in this large back bay.Well worth the wait!
Be careful out there and if you plan to fish on
unfamiliar ice, be sure to have your spud bar!

Great fishing with you TJ,better days are coming
