I fished Plainfield (Ia.) Lake today. This is a newer barrow pit lake for US HWY 218. The ice varied from 5″ close to shore to about 2-3″ out in the middle. All the rain/sleet/snow had windrowed across the lake with some patches of clear ice and snow ice(very slick walking). I tried from 6′ to 25′ of water and found no fish on the Vexilar and never caught a fish. I had heard there were some decent crappies in this lake but no luck today.
