Effects of snow on ice???

I am interested to hear some of your guys and gals opinions on the effect snow has on ice. More specifically on this recent snow storm and the effects it will have on our current ice conditions. I know that no ice is ever safe, but I would like to hear your opinions on the snow on top of ice deal. In other words, how much ice do you need to feel safe with lets say 10 inches of snow??? Is 5-6 inches of ice thick enough for 10 inches of snow??? Or do you need 9-10 inches of ice or more with 10 inches of snow to feel safe??? These questions are in regard to walking on the ice with portable ice houses only. I have not been on the ice yet this year and now I’m concerned about how safe the ice is now with this recent snowfall. Thanks for any replies.
