Ice cleats?

I was on the Croix thursday night and it was slick ice. I had on those ice cleats with the 2 rows of teeth under the balls of your feet. After a 1/2 mile of shuffling and nearly wiping out a few times I was beat . My friend had the kind that go under your arches but I tried those before and they made my arches ache but I think they gripped better. I was a Gander mountain and now they have a half dozen or more different kinds. I was wondering if anyone has a particular kind that outshines the rest. Thanks.

Stabil Icers the only way to go. I did see HT makes a version almost the same though for half the price.

Or just put some sheet metal screws in the bottom of your winter boots. Don’t go to long for the depth of the soles though..ouch..

Next pair I have will run the whole lenght of the soles! If you have the ones that go on the balls or tips of your feet you tend to change the way you walk resulting in sore muscles. I like the sheet metal screws idea if you have an old pair of warm boots.

I’ve had a pair of Get-A-Grip Extremes that have small metal studs (only about a 1/4″)under the front of your foot and heel and are very comfortable to wear and work well also. I think I paid about $20 at Fleet Farm a few years ago.

I have Get A Grip Ultras- the cleats work great on bare ice, but with snow cover, the spikes aren’t long enough to get a good bite.

Fleet Farm sells a pair that are full screw cleats, on a full shoe pad with velcro straps for attachment. They work great and easy on and off. The screws are replaceable too.

COst is $20 unless on sale, probably on sale now. Not sure who makes them , but they are not the rubber or wound wire style.

I like the stabilicer cleats but I drill them right into the soles of my icemen. This is the only way to go. Don’t forget to take them off prior to walking in doors.

JordanDavid.com makes the metal screw style. Might be a little pricey, but bulletproof.

Yak Trax for me. Glare ice is no problems with these on. I put them on when I leave home and am good all day. Just don’t forget to take them off when you get back home.
