VX1 interference with FL18?

I received a VX1 for Christmas. It works fairly well when I’m alone, but I usually fish with my son who has a FL18. When we fish in our 14’wheel house, the Marcum has so much interference that I usually turn it off. Pushing the IR button has little affect. Sometimes we can adjust the FL18 to reduce the interference. This has been very frustrating. Do you have any suggestions? Also when in the house I can see all the other lines/baits in the house, even ones that are 10 feet away. This makes it difficult to see my bait. Is this because of the cone angle? BTW-what is the cone angle on a VX1?

I have similar trouble. I have a VX-1 and fish next to my son using my Zercom Clearwater Classic. My VX-1 gets interference and the IR button is useless. The Zercom, with no IR, is hardly even bothered. I also get the clutter of his lures on my screen. We are normally about 8′ apart hole to hole and I realize how cone angles and so forth work but I never had this issue when using my Zercom in the same proximity to my dads Vexilar. I plan to contact Marcum and see what can be done. If nothing I’ll likely be selling the VX-1 as I normally fish with partners and cannot have a jumbled screen all the time.

I believe the cone is 20 deg.Not sure about tuning them in together,we had 2 FL18s,a FL8 and a LX3 going in the same house at once in a 16 footer.

not sure if this will work for you, but this is what the Gander MTN guy told me and I experienced this method’s wonders one day on the ice. I have an Lx-3 (no TC) and My friend has a Vexilar Fl-8. We were fishing in my 2 man and he didn’t bring his vex in. I knew why, and it was because he hates the interference. I told him to go get it and bring it on in and we set up and caught fish for a couple hours with no interference. Using my IR and his IR, we were able to set the ping speeds at complete opposites. My marcum was set at the fastest ping speed possible (last setting on IR) and he didn’t even need to use the IR- as no IR is the slowest ping speed. Both units performed flawlessly and we caught plenty of bull gills fishing in 8 ft of water. The IR is simply a ping speed adjuster and it won’t do you as much good just picking a random setting, as it will if you set it to complete opposites with the unit you are fishing with. You should be able to hear the difference by putting both transducers next to your ears

    Hope this helps,
    Cade
