    Caught this on the mill pond in austin couple days ago and have no idea what kind of fish it is?…some type of baitfish?

    Golden shiner. We have been getting a few of them around here as well. They will readily bite on a jig

    We always called things like that “Minnesota Walleye”. This special category of fish was reserved for certain fish such as sheepshead, carp, shiners, mooneyes, and so on. We were also very careful only to loudly proclaim we had caught a dandy minnesota walleye when we knew we were in the company of ‘sotans with a sense of humor. Should you be reading this and are a sotan with no sense of humor, I meant to say that the above pictured fish is an Iowan walleye.
