My wife thinks that I should get the new Four-stoke Strike master. I have no problem with that other then I have a new Strike master lazer Mag Xpress 2 stroke. Do you think the four stroke is better then the 2 and why? Thanks for your input guys.

2 stroke or 4 stroke
MarCum or Vexlar
Mathews or Hoyt
Chevy or FordAll comes down to prference my dear man…I sure wish I had a 4 stroke last weekend when I was drilling holes in or shack…fumes almost killed us…
January 25, 2007 at 3:51 pm #527818I think you should get a new 4-stroke and give your ‘old’ 2 stroke to me…
Personally, I recently bought a 2 stroke (JIffy STX) because I liked the idea of quicker rev-up, no oil to worry about… I have several other 2 strokes (chain saw, weed whacker, blower, etc) so having a can of oil/gas mix just isn’t a problem. As for fumes, yeah, the 2 stoke puts out a bit more smoke but once they get warmed up and rev’ed up, I really don’t think there’s all that much difference…
So… personal preference.
January 25, 2007 at 4:07 pm #527823IMHO. If it starts and turns I’m good. All I want an auger to do is cut holes.
I’ve been running my Strike master LM10 for the last 5 years. It always starts on the second pull. (Never the first or third, just the second.) Then it runs until I turn it off.
IMO thats all a guy can ask for. If your 2 stroke does this. Keep it. But if you need to spend the 400-500$ send it my way.

Don’t know about your situation but any time my wife tells me I should get something, a larger purchase of something she wants usually follows….

Try switching to the Amsoil Sabre 100-1 synthetic oil. You can run the 100-1 in all your two strokes, higher revs, less smoke and better protection in my opinion. Switched my jiffy 3hp and she’s never run better.
January 25, 2007 at 5:28 pm #527889Love my 4 stroke. I wouldnt trade for anything. No fumes, doesnt use any gas, no oil mixing, ultra easy to start. Everyone who has a 2 stoke in my fishing group wants a 4 stroke.
January 25, 2007 at 7:37 pm #527966Putt2Win_Do you use the Amsoil Sabre 100 to 1 mix in all your 2 strokes or just your auger, and for how long have you been doing this. I know this has come up in past posts, and wondered how common it is. Also, where are you guys getting the Amsoil? (I’m in the Twin Cities). Thanks
January 25, 2007 at 8:09 pm #527988Napa auto parts carries it. I just started running it in my auger this winter, but will start to use it in the weedwacker, chainsaw..ect this spring. When I whiched to the 100-1 I could hear and see the differance right away. I was very nervous about the 100-1 being way to lean and causing damage, but the more I researched it the better it looked. Basically the synthetic lubricant for the motor is used more efficiently vs. the nonsynthetic which is why the 24-1 or 50-1 tend to smoke more of the product.
January 26, 2007 at 1:12 am #528182This past year, I had both augers…the lazermagxpress 8″ and the strike lite 8″…
the xpress is sold..
I will never use another two stroke auger again…
I base that on-
No mixing gas-
Six lbs lighter-(six lbs doesn’t seem like a lot, but when you are drilling 100+ holes a day….it makes a HUGE difference)
No smoke-
Just as fast as a xpress-Let her warm up, and she runs like a top ALL day..not matter how frigid the conditions…

January 27, 2007 at 5:36 am #528768Well guys thanks for the input I’m just letting you know I kept the 2 stroke. Just could not see moving to the four with the 2 being brand new. May have made the move if I was replacing an old one. Thanks for your time… later.
