That was new years eve day. It was raining like a SOB and I had to walk through the woods for about 45 min before dawn to get where I thought I could get onto good ice. Nope But after walking that long there was no way I was turning back. The ice at the bank was rotted until about 10′ out so I walked through the water to get on good ice. It wasn’t that deep just over my boots so I had wet feet but it was pretty warm out. Anyway I was using 6’6″ rod and everytime down the hole for the first hour produced a slab. This one was the biggest at 13.5. I don’t think I caught a fish under 10″ inches that day. I kept 10 for the pan and the rest went back for another day. The best part is I had it all to myself. Plenty of guys tried to find a place to get on but after some puzzled looks they decided against it.
