The Great Spring Bobber Challenge

Last week Derek threw down a mean challenge for me and my gimmicky spring bobbers for gills. We fished Tue and the results were…..no results. Once we were on the lake we FISHED and both did fine. Between Derek, Dereks friend, Gary and I, we worked extra hard to make a difficult bite payoff enough to be worthwhile. It was a good time with some hardcore gill sticks. Just my kind of ice fisherman. I would say that the two of us teamed up on a bluegill competition would be a real threat.

HERE I COME TO SAVE THE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Insert picture of Dudley Dooright on the horse)

It was an abusive bite. One fish here, one fish there…..for about 6 hours. Just enough to keep a guy around and appreciate the beautiful and listening to deer grit their teeth.

Funny part of it all is this!
We were too noisy on the ice!!!!

Everytime we drilled new holes, we caught a couple of fish.

But come the afternoon when Derek and Suzuki decided to leave for the day, I wanted to stick it out for a sun-down crappie bite. They weren’t 100 yards away from me and the vex lite up like a Christmas tree!!!!!!
For 1 hour, I must have caught 25 sunnies on my SPRING BOBBER!!!!!!!! (not bad when you consider I had to rebait a new waxie each time).

Next time we go to lake “X”, we drill 3 holes, tape the mouths shut, plant your butts and FISH!

We were just too noisy. Actually, with that little pond, I think those fish were just afraid of any noise with all those big pike and bass!

I used a mini mert and a ratso all day. Ratso on bobber and MiniMert on the jigging rod with spring bobber. I only caught about 4 fish on the ratso.

It was a great day and a lot of fun!

    THANKS DAVE!!!!!!!!
Yep, it was Mighty Mouse that claimed that tune!!!!!!!

Come on Derek!!!! What was wrong with my imported, custom, hand crafted with spainish wood, vex box? Some people have Itailian suits, German Beer, Vienna Sausage, French perfume………I have a Clementine box from Spain!

    Hey, it did work though!!!!!!!!

Now I’m truly up to the challenge to make a custom box, with gps holder, drink holder, 2 rod holders.

I do got an old “leg lamp”. One that is similar to the “Christmas Story” with little Ralphie. I could use that for the base plus still have a light for the “system”!

Straightline jigging. I dont usually allow corks or springs on my secret lakes. But this was an exception.

    6 feet

trees, cattails, marsh, a house, a golf course and more marsh.

    6 feet of water…

I’d love to have been able to take part in that one…

48″ St.Croix Custom Rod with the line thru the blank and a fresh St.Croix Light action Spring Bobber…

I’d bet my rod on that one…Right Blue

Hey Mike… is lake “X” the one I think it is?? If so, I’m heading out tomorrow to try out a few new spring bobber ideas I’ve cooked up… If you’re out there, look for a big bearded guy….

No. This was Derek’s Lake X, not mine.

Any idea how many ‘lakes’ there are in a 50 mile radius of Hudson?? I’ll easily drive an hour to get to an excellent ice-spot Does that help??

[Mike: By the way, I didn’t get out at all last weekend – too much post-holiday clean-up and too little nice, cold weather… ]
