got to fish for a couple hours this afternoon at Stoddard. Ice was about 2 inches and heard no cracking. Caught a lot of fish but most were on the small side. Heard that from the other anglers leaving the ice as well. I was surprised to see the ice holding that well. Slippery tho, creepers are almost a must. good fishing–John

Thats good to hear that its still fishable. I talked to a guy at Church today that said he caught his limit there on tuesday, wednesday, and then took 2 other guys out and they all limited out on thursday, the longest of the 3 days it took them was 3 hours on ice!
    Good luck,

Thanks for the heads up John. The bulls are lurking around that area somewhere. I would like to see more ice there so picking up and moving out is a little safer.

There’s about 4″ in the goose island area i fished this in the afternoon. (first time driving myself out there). I could only fish for about a half an hour hour but managed 6 keeper sized fish and another 12 dinks. the fishing was good in there and the ice was better than i thought it would be and is going to get better.

3″ in a stagnant slough tonight. Ice was good, and actually pretty clear in most spots. One huge crack after sunset went right through my hole. That was one of the only cracks I heard but it scared me near to death! the shoreline was very thin, you could put your foot thru right at the edge, but if you took a big step, you would be on an inch or so of ice, where you could carefully spud your way to the nicer 3″ of ice in the middle. I couldn’t believe the water temperature. I’ve found the temp on my camera to be accurate and it said 44 degrees! this was only 2 feet below the ice! . (this was in dense weeds however) Hopefully we get some serious chill soon. Thankfully, its 8 o’ clock and already down to 26 degrees here in Lax. should help a little bit anyway.

I started for Stoddard this afternoon about 2:30, but there was an accident on hwy 35. Cars were backed up almost to shady maple. So went to Goose Island to fish. Lot of little fish, but about 4 some bigger fish started to bite. Kept a few for tyhe pan. Ice was ok, but a little thin in wsome areas. Used waxies on a couple different jigs, but color did’t seem to matter. They were biting the same for all on the ice, just alot of sorting. good luck fishing–John
