Underwater cameras become useless at dusk as the light fades. I wonder if putting in a underwater light source would be able to help prolong the underwater camera time? Can anyone suggest a lightsource?

Yup buy the Marcum 560. Other wise if you put a light near your camera lens the only thing you will lighting up will be the particles in the water and it will look like snow.

The 560 has a type of a light that does not illuminate the particles in the water. I am drawing a blank of the name of the light source right now.

In clear water with a green submersable light my scout does work. Check your local regs as using a submersables is NOT LEAGLE in all states.

Which one? Can you link me to the product at cabelas? Also, do you think that shining a spot light down the hole would help??

The ligght has to be near the camera to work, as for the light I’m not sure its my buddys and he took it with him last week. 18″ green tube clips to hook to a vex batterie.

I use it for shack lighting mostly lights up my QF 3 great.

So, I wonder if technically we shouldn’t turn on the lights on the cameras? Just a thought, not that I imagine they would or could be able to enforce such a thing.

Do most cameras have a light that turns on? The ones I have seen have infared lenses.

The cameras available to us utilize Infra-Red light sources. These are legal, because they are not visible light. In Minnesota, artificial, visible lights, except IR are illegal.

Down south, Crappie anglers use lights all the time, but it is legal in most southern states.

The truth about underwater lights is as follows. DNR regs are written as to intention, if you are using an underwater light for the sole purpose of attracting fish, then it is illegal. If are using the same underwater light so that you can see with your camera, this is legal. Kind of a thin line I know. Same thing with “slapsticks”. If the mechanism on the “slapstick” is used for the sole purpose of setting the hook on a fish, it is illegal. If you put a bell on it, and now the mechanism is used as an strike alert system, it is now legal.
