Just wondering in what Nebraska lakes you icefishermen have used an underwater camera.

I have had an Aqua Vu for four years and have not used it that much because of the questionable water clarity in many of our lakes.

Even in winter? there are local lakes by me that are worthless to use a camera in open water, but are awesome come winter.

The only time I tried one was when we were down at Harlan, but it was during the summer. Couldn’t see more than a few inches in front of the camera. It was horrible. Never used one for ice fishing though…..does it work well when you’re up north?

I use mine at Merritt and Big Mac during open water and have used it at several lakes during the winter. The longer we have ice the better the water clarity gets. There are some lakes that it never gets better. I always take it along because when they work they can be a lot of fun!!!!

I have found with mine, even in lakes I would consider stained, I can usually see about 10-15 feet, during daytime. Actually, at the GTG last year on the pond, I could see “Nick”s camera about 30 feet away, in 22 FOW !!!

big g – You Minnesota guys would consider all of our water to be stained!! Maybe even some of our drinking water here in Nebraska would be considered stained. I think the best conditions I’ve seen with my camera in Nebraska was maybe 15 feet in 10 FOW.

They can be used in the Yankton Tailrace or Missouri River above at your own peril, basically though they are worthless in most of Nebraska. As Ben says there are times when they are handy at Merritt or Mac.

I use mine 99% for ice fishing.

The drinking water comment is toooooo funny, I mean painful.

The reason I ask is that I really liked using my aqua vu and have had great success with it the further north that I get. I have used it on Merritt and some of the other sandhill lakes but never on any of the other reservoirs. That’s a lie I used it on Sherman once and almost thought that I was looking at a glass of chocolate milk. The deeper lake in SD also seemed to work well.

Just looking for lakes to fish.

As you probably know I don’t ice fish but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Actually I use my Aqua View on about every lake I fish. You don’t have to see very far to find what you are looking for as far as bottom structure, a few inches is all. If you ever make it down to Bull Shoals, make sure you have one with you, UNBELIEVABLE!

Ben, you been drinking that STAINED water again? Didn’t you ever learn that them city owned ponds with the tall fences are not for recreation!

Just razing you but can tell you one thing, I have a well and love every drink I take from it!

I can tell you one lake I would love to have a Aquq-Vu on is Wilson in KS. When we were there a couple months ago, you could see the fish you were bringing in at about 10′. That was great.

    That would rock Ben!

But I don’t think it will happen this year cause they are still fishing out of the boat and the lake temp came back up. Don’t think the lake will hold any ice where we would need now. It would have to get really cold down south to put that much ice at the east end of the lake.
