For folks that do prefer the dual beam. The FL-20 dual beam will retail for $549.95

    one x67c ice pack = $279.99
    two x67c ice packs = $559.98
Being able to afford beer for the beer batter = priceless

    Good one MM

Panfish has another scenario I forgot to mention. In SD we fish the trees in the winter. Last year the dual beam made a huge difference. We were able to fish areas we previously could not. We ended up having to put both the LX-3’s and FL-18’s away because they were worthless in the thick cover. Using the narrow beam eliminated most of tree reflection in the hole and you were able to see you bait.

It is a lot of work coaxing those trophy gills out of that thick cover and being able to switch to that narrow beam was a huge advantage…Even the diehard Vex guys learned to appreciate the dual beam on the LX-5 that day.

Again, just one of the many times that the Dual Beam is a must.

Here is a picture of a former Vexilar user. This picture is from the winter I was doing the testing on the LX-5, the year before it was released. Courtesy of the dual beam transducer.

SD Bluegill just shy of 1 3/4 pounds. Man that gets me excited for ice fishing

    analysis paralysis…

    information overload…

just did some more research on the web, spoke with more experts, did some price comparisons, etc. Considering my fishing style/techniques, I’m back to being undecided as to which way to go. I’m going to have to do a side-by-side-by-side comparison of the technologies to really know for sure which is best for my fishing style/techniques. I’ve been looking through fishing magazines for such reviews but they’re hard to find (and find one where the publisher doesn’t have a financial bias on way or the other – best way to check for that is to look to see if the mag has any ads for one maker vs the other).

I do want to thank everyone for their input… this forum is awesome and it’s also fun to watch people poking each other

King – I know you said you have been researching but I was glancing at Ice Shanty in the equipment forum and they have some good info in there on reviews and such. I hate pointing to another web site but there’s quite a few unbiased opinions in there. Just helping…
