well my brother and i headed up to lake of the wood on thursday evening for a fishing tourney on saturday sponsered by fishing minnesota. we got to the lake on friday morning cuz we just had to make a stop bu the palace casino, you know how that goes!! we had never been to the lake before so we just kind of gueseed where to fish and boy did we hit a spot!! got on to some eyes right away and within 3 hours we had our limit! nothing huge but some real good eaters. the day of the tourney we decided why change what we know works so we hit the same spot and we got the same results picked throught about 40 walleyes and got another limit. then with about 1 hour left in the tourney i hooked a real nice fish, thought at first it was a big eye but after about a 10 minute fight on 6 lb. test i came to realize it was a big pike. when i got her up the hole i knew this fish would win us the tourney!! so all excited i took out my tape measure and came to the grim conclusion that my fish was 30 and 3/16″ and that was 3/16″ too big to keep, what a heartbreaker!!! but the fight and the catch will be with me forever! we still took 5th place and had a great time!! the bite is hot up there so if you want to get into some awesome action head up to Zippel Bay Resort on LOTW.
