If I were you I would call up to one of the local tackle shops in Guttenberg or PDC before you head to the river. I live in DBQ and have not heard of anyone heading out on the ice. I don’t even know if the ice is anywhere near thick enough to walk on. The colder temps have made some ice but not a great deal of it from my observations. I would almost doubt if there were more than an inch or two on the backwaters that had lost their ice in early January. The channel is still very open as are the running sloughs. If I were you I would hook up the boat and head to Guttenberg and fish for saugers and walleyes instead of chancing it on the ice. I could be totally wrong about the thickness of the ice but it doesn’t seem as if it has been cold enough for long enough to generate enough safe ice. Good luck.

    Traumatized,
The ice conditions at bussey are fishable. You have to watch where you walk getting onto the ice but it is possible. I was up at bertom last friday and the shoreline was a little iffy but once you got on there was still a good 6-8 inches of solid ice. I would say you should be fine at bussey, not sure about greymore though. I’ve heard the bite at bussey has been slow and the fish are running on the small side. Good luck!
