I am heading up to LOTW next weekend, thinking about making the trek up to Oak Island. Anyone have any tips/advice to share about ice fishing this area. Thanks in advance.

I was just up there last weekend.

We snowmobiled up from Baudette and stayed at Sportsman’s Lodge Oak Island.

Saturday we fished the Four Block reef. It was slow but we caught fish on top of the reef in 16 feet of water. We tried deeper and didn’t do that well.

Sunday we hit the reef on the north east side of Little Oak Island. Again top of the reef in 15 feet of water was the best. We had good action most of the day. I’m guessing around 30 walleyes for the day. Perch, glow buckshot spoons and a minnow head worked the best. After missing several on my dead stick using a Demon and a shiner, I switched to a ¼ oz. Yellow and orange Glo- devil with a shiner and caught more fish.

The further we got away from Oak Island, the murkier the water was. At Little Oak you couldn’t see your transducer at the bottom of the hole. I think that’s why the buckshot spoons worked better. I couldn’t catch anything on a jigging rap.
