Iowa City Ice Conditions

I just returned to Iowa City from Minnesota, and I checked a couple of ponds in town to see how the heat affected them. I was hoping to get out tomorrow morning before the predicted rain and more warm weather puts a stop to ice fishing here. What I found was several inches of soft, wet, stuff that was more like snow than ice. There may be some good ice under all the mush, but I did not reach it with my spud bar. It looks like open-water walleye fishing for me.
