The lake access is open for vehicles again at Nitti’s Hunters Point Resort on the eastside of Mille Lacs Lake. They pulled out a few more houses today and will pull more Thursday!

How do these access points work? I have been contemplating a trip up to the pond but have only fished open water. Can you get around with a truck or is an ATV the answer. (assuming safe ice). Thanks for the advice. OUT…

I went out of Terrys on the west side on Monday and drove my f-150 four door w/ 4 adults and drove all the way out to 7 mile flat and had no issues. I would say 14′-15′ of ice. Most people were on Atv’s and sleds but saw plenty of truck tracks on the lake. Lake was very busy and only iced 4 eyes’…RR

Just got off the phone with a friend who is sitting out on the flats right now catching fish. 14″ of ice everywhere he’s been. Driving around with a 2 wheel drive truck is not a problem. 1-2″ of snow with a couple drifts that might be 6″.

Most resorts have marked/plowed roads to fishing areas. Check in and pay an access fee to use the road.

Breachable by bridges only. Hunter’s has bridges out. Not sure about Liberty. I am heading up tomorrow out of Hunter’s to Hook’s shack.

I just recieved this from Karen McQuoid at Mac’s Twin Bay.

    ———————————————

Fishing is still going well on Mille Lacs! I hear there are some
    mis-reports of no driving—

Ice out of our bay is good ice; some 15″ and we are still driving. Have been
driving for weeks now. The ice we have is good, black ice. The colder
weather at night has been helping things, too.

Some other parts of the lake are struggling with ‘bad’ ice and not going
out, but at Mac’s, we still are. Drive on passes are $10 per day–for a
    truck, a car, a portable, a wheeled house—all are $10.

All our rentals are out and we still have some openings this weekend and
    next week.

As for private houses–we are still pulling smaller house (up to ~10×20) out
    and letting vehicles drive.

Hunters Point Closed their road down to vehicle travel again. They have a bad area just off shore…….they are allowing ATV and Sled’s…..George said that he wanted hold off with all the driving till it heals again. Call your resort prior to making your trip up, might need to bring the ATV!

We need some cold temp’s to freeze up these cracks!
