Hey,Scott. Good to see your reports. Gives me something to look forward to reading, I’m broke down with a broken leg right now. Look forward to fishing in Feb. on Red. Talked to a friend who was on a few of the Faribault area lakes this past weekend.Approach all lakes with extreme CAUTION. Most ice reported from 4″ to 6″,slush pockets under snow with 1″-2″ water, followed by 1″-3″of ice.Be CAREFUL.

    jiggle-jiggle..that was a good one

I wanted to let people know that the ice isn’t safe in the West Metro. We tried the ice on Collinwood Lake, by Cokato, and cut a few test holes that were about 8, as we went along the lead guy with a chisel testing the ice. We got out about 100 yards from shore and he was poking along and the next poke “OPEN WATER” . We retreated as quickly as possible. It is incredible to have daytime HIGH’S in the teens or lower and not have walkable ice. It goes to show you how good of an insultator the snow is. I had 3 buddies that went pheasant hunting this weekend in different groups. All 3 of them broke through the sloughs they were hunting. I guess a guy has to head up North! Good Luck to ALL and “BE SAFE”. 690reece

Are you trying to fish next to a power plant??

The fishing here in Anoka and Ramsey county is slow but the ice is a solid 8″ to 10″. Lots of snow on the ice but good enough to bring the quad out and waste some time drowning some waxxies

Sorry to hear that, Bill. We used to go up there 6-7 times a year and only went once this year. Hope it improves again. It was a great place to fish.

Welcome Bill, I feel your Pain on Leech, the good news is they have taken some aggressive steps to making things better. The fishery will rebound, and quicker than most expect I think

The quality is still there. Last year I took one fish for the frying pan it was 17.5 in. I caught many more over the slot of 26. I have been able to catch one walleye for every 2-3 hrs of fishing. And lately I have been concentrating my efforts at night which have upped my odds.

My stay on the ice starts tomorrow at 6 am and it will end January 13th. I will try to get back home and use the computer so I can post some reports. I will be heading to West and East Rush Lake, Lake of the Woods, Little Rock Lake, the Perham area, and possibly Mille Lacs and surrounding lakes.
