the ice is always safe. its the water underneath that is not. believe me, i know.

November 18, 2005 at 4:07 pm #397672My friend pond has barely even begun to ice over so i know its a little early yet. I dont think we will start to see steady ice accumulations until after thanksgiving…Im predicting safe ice by december 15 or so…at least for where we are. 40 degree highs won’t cut the cheese..even if it is getting down to 15 at night.

November 22, 2005 at 3:07 am #398342I am the kind of guy who likes safe ice. I use to say when the ice will support my little car I will walk on it. I do plan to go on ice with less thickness than that ”only” in shallow water. HOF will have to take me by the hand though. He hits shallow water fish each year and I’m hoping to get out with him on it. For deeper water I may be a chicken but I’m still a live chicken. Better to be safe than sorry.
