I hate to sounds like “that guy” but it really depends on the type of ice fishing you do. If you like to just go and sit on the same hole all year round….Go Permanent…

If you like to bounce around spots and travel to different waters, portable is the only way to go…

Well Slop got it right. I know for me personally a portable is the way to go.

I used to have a permanent shack but got caught one year with heavy snow. Ended up with about a foot of ice above the floor and a note from the local CO that he expected it off on time. Well, 3 guys, 2 days, a chain saw, and a 30-06 with a box of shells later, it popped loose.

I now have a so called portable 6′ x 8′ fold over floor house for when the family comes with and an Otter Cabin for when I am alone. They both fit in the truck box.

It depends upon how many fish you want to catch? Go mobile if you don’t mind drilling a few holes and moving around. If you prefer the drop and flop, go permanent. Good luck on your purchase. It’s that time of year when a good price can be had…….

I don’t think you spill as much beer in a permenant on a per outing basis but over the season I think the floor of the permenant gets more.
    Was that your Question?
    Seriously, I vote portable.
