I have a little open water along our shoreline on the eastside. The ice was moving in the wind yesterday. It came up on the point and on the Lakeside breakwater. I would think I’ll start seeing some walleye any night along the rocks starting to spawn!

cove bay is open! yesterday evening my wife and i drove around to the rum river. the ice on the main lake lokks really dark. we got aome good rain yesterday, it took it’s toll on the ice. i did mention the rum river. the northerns are running in the headwaters of the rum. they are netting and tagging the northerns for a study to see if the slot can be expanded. it is cool to see all those fish in the same area………tom f

Friday. I am hardly ever right about anything. Friday. That’s the day.
Bob, can you get a pic of the eyes spawning by your dock? That would be COOL!

I’ve been out looking, none yet.
I did try and take a picture of all the marble eye’s one night……..no go. The ice is now out around 100 yards or so. The bay by Hunters Point is open almost point to point. I was in Garrison this morning and thought I would see some ice piled up, but didn’t see much. The rain is really taking it’s toll on the ice. It won’t be long and it’s gone!!!!!!
Tuck Friday-Sunday would be my guess right now!

Tuck, I’ve seen the walleyes spawning in the creek in such large numbers……you could have walked across them! When shining a flash light, it looked like someone had spilled a truck load of marbles in the creek!

The ice continues to move around with the wind. We are to have winds out of the south/southwest now through Sunday. It’s ready to go any time! When I rolled over in bed this morning……..I could see open water out about one mile! This afternoon it blew back in closer to shore…….and the temperature went down with the ice coming closer to shore. I sure am looking forward to getting rid of the ice and getting the temperature to rise a little with the open water……..it sure makes a difference with the ice out there.

    April 18th …………

The lake is open as far as one can see!!!!!!!!

With the wind last night, the lake is ice free. Yesterday what ice was left floating was pretty soft.

We will wait for the official word from the Mille Lacs Messenger News Paper for the posted ice out date. My guess it will be april 18th…..

Correction……….as of noon today a large ice area of ice floated back in within sight of shore…..guess we still have ice on the lake.

Well don’t spend your winning’s yet!

There still is a lot of ice on the lake………as some floated in this noon! They might be able to run a boat from Isle to Garrison, but not able to run up to the northend.

    I’ll keep ya posted…..

The wind is going to finally switch directions at noon today. it’s going to blow 15-20 mph out of the NNE…….all the ice on the northend of the lake will shift to the SW corner……..look out Eddy’s/Rocky Reef area. This wind MIGHT finally take care of the remainder of our ice?
