Ice conditions were marginal, the lake had about 18 to 20 inches of solid ice. There were no roads where we were; we had to hike about 100 yards through knee deep snow to find 40 feet of water. There was a good 8 inches of slush and standing water on the ice under the snow. Drilling all those holes made it worse, by the end of day, the water level was above my boot tops. Snoeshoes really helped getting around. (Tip, take the snowshoes off before drilling holes).

I watched some fish stare at my lure on the Vex, any movement, and they were gone. I missed 2 fish, but was a fun time on the ice.

Craig in our group caught the only fish, a pretty nice lake trout, about 26 inches 5.6 pounds. Caught on a small jig, fathead minnow 30 feet down.
