I’m a newbie, so it’s scarry guys. Just looking around for some information on ice fishing in the Twin Cities area (Minnesota). I can’t always take the time to go up north, so have to settle for closer to home. Haven’t found any recent posts of guys (or gals) talking about lakes in the cities area (say within 50-60 miles). Is it fair to ask if anyone has anything to share? Thanks for your patience with the newbie.

Ah, yup! Thanks for the help. As I said, I am a newbie, so I am getting used to where stuff is. I checked it out, a little information, but not much. As I go out I see hundreds and hundreds of guys fishing so I might think there would be more posting on the Twin Cities area. The word was that the Crappie bite is on at Karl’s Lake, after midnight. I went out there and it was a crazy scene. Guys whipping Louies on the ice, noisy, a party scene. No bites, either. Went to Marion in Lakeville. Heard the Northern’s were biting. Got some action there and the fishing scene was much more normal. Just looking for other advice. Thanks for the help, guys.

Welcome Aboard!! I live north of the cities and the word has been on Rush lake. Martin, linwood and Coon aren’t doing anything. One guy said they were catching them in 30 ft. with white and pink glow jigs! I haven’t made it out there but if you do, let us know!! Good Luck!

I have to agree with you on Carl’s lake, I was out there on Saturday and it seemed like people couldn’t wait to fire up their truck just to hear the dual pipes. It was unusually noisy. As far as the bite on Carl’s goes, we had some fair action until dark and then they got really picky. During the day they were also picky, as we could see on the camera but you could still entice them and catch a few. We did round out the day catching crappie, bluegills, perch, and one 7 inch walleye. Generally Carls will give you consistent action every time you go out there.

Hey Fish On, thanks for the information. I am going to check it out. Troy, I was at Carl’s on Saturday, too. I guess we heard the same stuff. I didn’t enjoy any bite, but I may have been getting to upset over the outside show. Had guys driving right alongside my portable, back and forth. It was not comfortable. Maybe I’ll try Carl’s again later. Thanks.

Fish On – I have never fished Rush. Just checking out some basic information on it. Would you mind a further note of advice as to whether it would be the east or west lake? Just in checking them out there is sure a difference in the lake topo.

Chisago lakes are doing well…gills during the day…I hear crappies and eyes at night.

You have to pick through the gills if you want a meal. Two people in the afternoon should get you a meal.
