Well I am not a real big ice fisherman, but I would really like to see some ice so the ducks start moving. Sad to say but that’s what is going to take for us waterfowlers to bag some migrators. Just thought I’d post in here to get a better response than what I’d get in the waterfowl board. I know a few die hard ice fisherman that start praying for ice in september, so I guess I can say I am with all the die hard ice fisherman…….bring us some ICE!!!!!!!

Duckilr,
I couldn’t agree with you more about getting some birds around. We need to pray for ice in Canada and the northern states to really give these birds a big boost.
For the ice fishing, I like it myself so the sooner we get ice the better for me.
November 12, 2004 at 3:15 am #327304Give me 60 degrees, or ice please. I can’t wait for the ice to come. I am not duck hunting this year, but I know I could kill some more roosters if we get some ice. I just started putting out all the ice fishing gear at the store last night. I told my manager I live for fishing so he told me I could set up the whole display. Looking at all the new rods, reels, tip ups, and other gadgets got me thinking just how much of my next few pay checks are going right back to the store.
New must haves this year:
1. Frabill has a new tip up light. The light comes on when the flag goes up and it continues to flash until you put it down.
2. A rod and reel bag. I am sick of lugging all the rods around and getting them tangled.
3. New pair of Rocky’s for ice fishing.
4. Got the Vex last year (Dad did, but I keep the dust off it for him) so this year I figure I need a portable (too bad my dad is still happy with his old one).Ice Gods, you are in my prayers.
November 12, 2004 at 2:15 pm #327329Ice time is the best time of the year – but I am guessing, based on the weather forcast in to next week, that we’ll be lucky to see a-n-y frozen water by Thanksgiving – much less any that is hard enough to walk on.
No bugs – no jet skis – no ski boats – no futzing w/ the trolling motor trying to maintain position.

November 12, 2004 at 3:02 pm #327338Just knock it off, all of you!!! We don’t need no stinkin’ ice til January.
November 12, 2004 at 5:45 pm #327352I second that, last year was great with snow on the ground. Hoping this year will be the same.
November 14, 2004 at 12:36 am #327452Had to break ice this morning on pool 5 to go duck hunting, won’t be long until we can fish the hard water! But there still ain’t no ducks!
November 14, 2004 at 2:40 am #327458Sgt, $20 bucks will get you a bird bath heater…I know, it sounds corny…but you would be surprised at what comes to your bird bath in January…
Although I haven’t had any ducks in mine yet…I’m with ya on the 60 or ice.
November 15, 2004 at 2:50 am #327533Can tell you guys that skim ice is a forming in northern WI . Would tend to think that the little lakes might be ready to go in the very near future!!! Stay safe if you go out on first ice, even though it is the best ice to fish on and walk on, remember not all ice forms evenly.

November 15, 2004 at 3:50 am #327552Give me nice warm weather til the end of this month so I can play with my new toy and then give us ice. Thanks, Bill
November 15, 2004 at 5:19 am #327559Was in Pine River over the weekend. 8 degrees Friday Morning and 12 on Saturday. I walked on the edge of a pond, on the ice! NOt for long but I had to try.
November 15, 2004 at 2:49 pm #327583I’ve got the bird bath heater. Just not plugged in yet. And with the looks of the weather in the next week I won’t need it. Gull durn heat wave. Better try and find some orange shorts for deer season in WI. Leaving Wed morning for the north woods and not back until after turkey time. Peace and quiet and maybe even a deer!!
November 18, 2004 at 6:55 pm #328031Well I guess I got the response in here that I was looking for. As most of you have already stated, early ice isn’t looking good at all. With overnight lows in the mid 30’s and 40’s all over the state, looks like it could be nearly christmas before ice comes. Guess I’ll have to bust out the blaze orange t-shirt again for deer season. It’s not bad, except there really isn’t too much to hang the back tag from. Just hoping it doesn’t rain, but that might be out of the question as well. Don’t worry guys, still praying for ice!!!
PS-bird bath heater? I’ve heard of dog dish heaters, but now that’s classic!
