I found some time to sneak away Sunday afternoon to check a local lake to see how the ice looked and take advantage of how great the late ice bite is. I didn’t find any really big fish but almost all the fish I marked had no problem crushing a Pug Bug. The ice conditions were great ice was still tight to shore and I only found one small patch of slush with the four wheeler. The highlight of the day for me though was getting my almost 2 year old daughter on the ice for the first time, and with any luck I will get her out at least one more time this season.
There’s still plenty of good ice in the area but precautions should be taken with the warming temps.
