I made it up to Central Minnesota to get in a weekend of ice fishing with some friends. Was hoping to get back up there one last time next weekend. With Temps in the mid 50’s and a 70 forecasted on Wed. I am not sure if a another weekend will be doable or not on the lakes were were fishing. Hard to believe that we could go from traving on the lakes in a full sized Truck to not being able to get on in only 5 days, but it could be the case. The fishing was decent. Caught some real nice sunfish. Bite was a little tough and had to work hard for them. The weather was great. Fishing in only a light sweatshirt sure was nice after the kind of winter we had. Hope I can get in 1 more weekend. But if not, bring on the open water season.

If you’re up for traveling a little further north, the Ely area still has a ways to go, yesterday I was drilling through at least 36″ of ice with some snow still on top. Obviously check conditions before you show up as things can always change and make sure you’re traveling on safe ice before you walk out; we should have at least 2 weekends left of safe ice. The fishing has been fantastic too!

From what I have been hearing from Devils and Northern MN if a guy really wants to they might again flirt with the May 1 ice fishing. Amazing how a guy can find himself on the water November 20th perhaps and fish for 5 plus months some years. – QB
