A buddy and me went out after some crappie yesterday afternoon and he hook a small gill and it di the swim around the transducer and he lifted the transducer and the line cut right through the transducer! not the wire just the casing. All of our outdoors stores put all there ice fishing stuff up for the winter and were planning on going to south dakota this weekend. is there any quick short term fix? i was thinking some sort of shrink rap with electrical tape over it?

Electric tape, as long as there is no damage to the wiring.

You may want to add some sort of tension line to help support the load so it is not just hanging on the wires. Use a length of braid under your tape wrap.

I have done a full splice (below water) of the wires on a transducer and it still works today. I did replace the ducer but still have it as a back up and it gets used from time to time.

Add some dielectric grease to the wire before wrapping it. You may be able to find a gel splice at hdwr store of electric dept of HD/lowes/menards. It may be tough to find one small enough there though.

Unless ou have a full cut wire you will not be able to get heat shrink on. If you plan on replacing it just grease and tape it to seal and it should get you by easily.

If it still works just tape it. I used a taped transducer for 2 seasons years back though I mostly kept the taped portion out of the water.

the slice is about a foot up the transducer.. For around here most of the time that would be out of the water but in south dakota the ice is 30 to 36 inches from what ive read.

I think the biggest thing is to prevent the wires from corroding. So sealing it off as best you can will make it last a long time.
