If you are going to Scheels they can answer that question for you and help you decide what you want.

Everybody’s needs/wants are different.. but I prefer a light tip with alot of back bone @ around 28″-32″ long.

I like a fast tip but backbone is a must… Typically the store rods are often missing the backbone.

BTW knowing the TUC guys if they’ve got one on hand you might be able to get them to overnight and have a precision waiting for you at the resort

Would a Jason Mitchell meat stick be the right rod or to soft?

I don’t know that rod, but look for one that has very little bend past the mid point of the rod.

Scheels has their own brand ice rods and the high end ones are nice. They have a 34 inch MH that’s really nice. My buddy uses his for eyes and perch.

These are my go to rods for eyes and perch. The only issue is they will freeze up fast when not in a shelter.

So now a really wide question.. Haha what to use for a lure? Spoons jigging raps? i will have a tungten with spikes for finicky perch on my tucr noodle.. But what should i use for the aggressive perch and walleye? I have a small spoon box with size 1/16 oz and 1/8 ratlin flyers and 1/16 oz tinglers and a few stop signs and a few 1/16 oz slender spoons.. thinking tipping with a minnow head. what would be your first choice?..

For walleye and active perch, I start out mornings with something that glows and makes noise, my go to is the Rattle Spoon with a UV glow, your rattling flyers should work here. Usually I switch to a Tumbler once the sun casts light on my spot. Once noon time hits I’m all Tingler until it starts to get dark, then it’s back to the Rattle Spoon. Every place is different though and as far as colors go, that will depend on what colors are working hot where you are planning to fish. Sounds like you should have what you need, but if you’re staying at a resort, give them a call and see if they have any insight on what colors have been hot lately; it doesn’t hurt to call ahead to a nearby bait shop either.

This is one of my favorite rods but when I walleye fish it’s technique specific. Use it as a deadstick instead of a traditional bobber. Do not use it for spoons or other active presentations. For panfish the Meatstick has saved the day for me many times.

The other comments above are spot on. Light tip with good backbone.

here are my four rods for Walleye:
    Cheap rod for bobbers
Meatstick for deadstick – occasional only and usually in a house
Mitchell 26″ Perch – active presentations and secondary rod
Thorne bros Perch Sweetheart w/outside guides- got this for Christmas a year back and go to rod for active presentations.

One note – none of these are stiff or even marketed as pure walleye rods. My lure choices rarely go over 1/8th oz.

Another resource is on Thorne Bros website where they talk about their different rods and applications.
