I ordered an LX-9 last week and am very excited to get it and ultimately use it. Do I have to or should I do the update before using the unit? Any issues I need to know about with the update? Thanks for any information. I am making the jump from an LX-5 and 825c to the LX-9.
When you get it, first thing charge the battery all the way up. When you power it up, look at the system and verify which version it currently is at.
The current level is LX-9 Software Update v2.31 (Release Date. Jan 20th 2014)
If you need to update, just follow the instructions on the marcum site Marcum LX-9 Firmware
After I updated mine, I noticed I needed to run the brightness just a little higher and i ran the sensitivity a little lower. Otherwise, working great! 
Thanks Randy. Now I just have to wait until for it to arrive. Kinda like a kid waiting for Christmas morning. Lots of ice fishing season left.
I remember that feeling last year. I think the anticipation of the battery charging was worse than waiting on the shipping. But, as soon as the battery was charged, had to play. Even hooked it up to my TV to check the video out port. Even had to get a pic of the first fish caught beneath my new 9
