I have the little buddy heater…the one where the tank screws onto the bottom of the heater.Have sent it back and they said nothing is wrong with it..Mine will not light worth a damn…Anyone else have this heater?
If so how does it work for you?
How about the bigger models ? Do they work well or not?

Its tricky. They will blow out very easily so you need to light it inside a shanty or a room with no moving air. Mine also only works well with coleman brand propane, the worthington takes forever to light and the flame is weak and goes out when you breathe on it. The coleman burns hot and has a fantastic flame.

x2 on the little heaters. I noticed the larger ones are more forgiving and seem to light wherever.

Where are you located? I could use a parts one.

Is this the one you are referring to?

There is a nice fix for the pilot blowing out so easy.

dumb question but do you hold down the red switch for a while before you hit the ingite? I notice the longer I hold it down the easier it starts.

I have the orignal buddy 4-9000 btu. Has always worked well, but doesn’t take wind well. Wasn’t big enough for my yukon shack so bought a big buddy and that works fine as well. The only thing I have had is when it is too cold and have snow piled up around shack that the CO detector will shut the unit off, which is a good thing!

Super easy fix if you had the same problem as mine. Take a q-tip and pull some of the cotton off so that it will just fit into the gas orfis by the thermostat sensor. Dip in rubbing alcohol and run it in while twisting. It will go about 1″ or more. Do that a couple times and should clear the problem. I had a.post back in November describing the same thing. Dirt and crud settles in there and it blocks the gas flow.

Guess I’m the black sheep here, mine works great.
For the record though I’ve had problems with about every other kind of heater out there except the portable buddys and the old,old heater/cookers.

Had the same problem but found if tilting it forward so the gas actually runs up against the unit it lights a whole lot easier.

Works. Had a friend that was so mad he was ready to throw his heater out his shelter. I made this suggestion, it fired up, he calmed down, life was good.
The Q-Tip cleaning is a good idea!

I learned that trick when ready to throw mine out the tent too and thought maybe I wasn’t getting enough spark so I tried using a lighter and noticed the flame was pulling away from the heater due to drafts inside even with all the doors and vents closed. The tilt works for me all the time and have never had problems since. I’m glad I could help. At least I was useful today. I wish the docs at work would quit bitching today and take some of my advice and it’d be a great day. Maybe I need to get them on the ice for a GTG and we’d all be happy!
