I am heading to Webster, SD Thursday and all the Otter Lodge covers are sold out even though I have had one order on Amazon for three weeks (thinking it probably won’t come until next fall). I have a custom aluminum cargo carrier for my pickup hitch for the Otter Lodge (so I have more room in my pickup topper). Any ideas here for a quick cover. I was thinking going to Menards maybe finding a gas grill cover with draw strings. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I have a spare cover still in the clamshell. PM me, we can work it out if you want it.

You could look to see if Clam, Shapell, etc have an ice house with similar dimensions to yours and get one of theirs. The other option at Menards would be a good old cheap blue tarp. One of the spider webbed elastic cargo nets might do a good job of securing it.

Cabelas covers are way nicer than otter covers.

I made my own with fabric from Wal-Mart. I felt pretty manly using a sewing machine, but it actually turned out quite nice.
I hate spending 60 for a cover probably made in China.

Thanks for the ideas and tips. I wish I had the time, a sewing machine & even knew how to operate the sewing machine. I should of started this project a lot sooner.
But was thinking it would get here in time. I do have a Cabela’s cover for my one man Wild. It just won’t stretch for a two man. Might be the Redneck blue tarp cargo carrier at this point. Thanks again!

    Swap spots with the items.
I have a cargo hauler I built to fit my otter but I also have used the rack to haul a Job Box and also rubbermaid tubs.

Perhaps if you have a big box you could use that on the rack and put otter in truck?

There is not a lot of air drag behind my truck, if you wrap the otter with a tarp and tuck it under well then 2 ratchet straps to hold it down you should be good to go on freeway.

X2 just replaced my otter cover with the cabbalas cover , 10 times the cover (heavier, zipper openings on top and has extra strapping to help keep it tight on the sled.)

Any idea what the Cabela’s catalog number might be? I stopped at Mennards and got a Gulf Stream ATV 4 Wheeler Cover with elastic cord for now. Believe it or not if fits pretty good and with 3 ratchet straps it doesn’t blow in the wind at all. For $20 it will serve the purpose but still what to get something that fits tight when pulled by a sled on the lake if need to. I’ll send the Otter Cover back whenever it shows up

Not sure about the number-Google. I think Cabelas brand stuff is 10% off right now.

I was in the same boat when I just bought my new Lodge a few days ago and a fellow at a fishing store told me to get a frabil predator cover, they are a lot nice than otters. I will attest to that, its better than my old cabin cover, has a zipper on the top, goes a lot further down the side of the sled protecting the canvas hanging over, and has a strap you tighten also besides the bungee.

revpilot, you are right the Frabill Predator cover is the nicest one around. The zipper is a nice feature, but you can’t beat the straps that are built in. Plus the fabric is very good quality. I wish Otter would get on board and do something similar and use a little heavier duty fabric on them as well. They work, but you expect a lot more when you consider the price and also how nice the fish house fabric is and how strong their sleds are.
