Was out to prior yesterday. Powerhead was almosr flush with the ice to get thru. My guess is by next weekend a extension will be needed on some if not most all metro lakes. This will be the first time I have ever needed one on the metro. And we still have lots of cold winter remaining. maybe the recent show with slow down the freeze a little.

We still got through Pokegama and Cross lake yesterday. Poke was very close where the snow had been beat down. Community spots. Little more snow on Cross and still had a good 6″ or more to go.

Crappies where very slow on both lakes.

Was out on Waconia on saturday and barely got through off the beaten path. Granted, I didn’t clear the snow or ice chips from around the hole, just kept going. To help things, I can’t find an extension for the life of me in the cities. Only home made/custom made ones from the bait shops. To top it off, they’re almost double the cost of a strikemaster one.

Same for me at Crystal yesterday, and I have no plans of buying an extension. Might just have to dig the boat out!!

I was getting through on Medicine all weekend but it was pretty close (w/o clearing away snow). I was thinking it would’ve been nice to have the extension just to save on so much bending over, ha.

Does blue ribbon bait have official ones or home made ones?
I called joes sporting goods yesterday, they have some made by…cannon I think, couldn’t understand the brand the guy said. Almost 50% more expensive than an official strikemaster one but I don’t feel like building one before my trip on Thursday.

stopped by a metal store in minneapolis last night and got some scrap metal by the pound to make my own extension. 8 dollars, and enough material to make 3 12″ extensions. If you’re handy, that is the way to go. Tubing was – 7/8″ OD 11ga for bit end, 1 1/4″x 5/32″ for powerhead end.

Well, handy AND a metal worker WITH the right equipment which means about 99% of must not be HANDY.

Make extra and sell them for cost to some IDO brothers. Now THAT would be handy.

My friends, who like to spear northerns, dug this chunk out about 40 yards from where we were setting our tip-ups. Not quite 3 feet deep. We barely got through the ice on Monday. With the extension, it was no problem. We did see one guy get his auger hung up when he got down the hole as far as he could get and then stopped . This was on Enemy Swim in South Dakota earlier this week.
