Hello, IDO! I am heading out to Lynn Lake Lodge on Sunday with some fishing buddies for a long overdue trip. We aren’t looking for anything specific, but would like to spend at least part of a day looking for northerns. I am just looking for notes from any of you who have been out recently—-what lakes can we get on, anything looking good? I know we can talk to the people at the Lodge and at bait shops, but just seeing if you can narrow down the search. We are talking 2-3 days. Thanks in advance.

I was up on Bitter Lake earlier (late December) looking for walleyes/perch and the Northerns were attacking everything.
North end of Bitter Lake. Now it has been
awhile so I don’t know how travel on the lake is. But if
you want I can PM you some coordinates to get you started
if you like.February 12, 2014 at 10:45 am #1388083Ed,
From what I have heard travel is good on the lakes, most of the snow has blown off, but there maybe drifts in some areas. We caught some nice Northerns on Bitter and I believe it was Lynn that we fished one day when it was really windy. This was in October but there was good sized Northerns caught.
February 12, 2014 at 11:22 am #1388100I can only attest to the Bitter Lake numbers for pike, there are some dandy’s, find a shallow reef or rock hump. If a few weeks we are going up for the GTG and also have the following week where we are up hitting those lakes for 4 days, really want to get into some pike and get some put up for pickled pike!
February 12, 2014 at 11:24 am #1388102oh, as far as the driving, you can get stuck if your not paying attention to the drifts, the south east landing was a wagon wheel rut trail and was rough, some said the access at the new lodge was better.

We fished Bitter from Thursday night through Sunday afternoon. Friday we searched most of the day without being able to find any perch. Saturday we got on them. And Sunday morning we had good luck also. They were not super aggressive, but we were able to get plenty of active biters. There were plenty of non-takers also. But if you had plenty of open holes around, you could hop from hole to hole to take advantage of the more aggressive fish.
All our perch went into a bucket of water. When we dumped them out, there were lots of little bloodworms in the bottom of the bucket. So that might explain why the wax worms and spikes were working better than minnow heads for us. We caught our perch in 30-32 ft of water.
Getting around on the ice is pretty easy right now. There are some drifts, but they didn’t affect our travel anywhere on the lake. Only for the guys pulling heavier shacks. And even those, a little bit of snow shoveling and you were on your way again.
The perch bite seems to be pretty normal. We had a much more aggressive bite a few weeks ago. It wasn’t bad this weekend, just had to work them a little harder to get that bite.
Dead-sticking was also pretty effective in combination while jigging a rod in a hole next to it.
February 12, 2014 at 1:39 pm #1388148Thanks CamoHunter for the info on the Perch. I’m heading up there next Thursday through Sunday with my 80 year old uncle and cousins from N.W. Iowa. It’s our annual trip there. Looking forward to it.
