Where would you go?

A buddy and I are putting together a last minute trip for next weekend (Feb. 21-23). We will be leaving well before light on Friday morning and returning late Saturday night or first thing Sunday. We are a little stumped on where to go given we typically do LOTW, so I thought I’d tap into the expertise here on IDO. Base camp will be in the Grand Rapids area. Keeping in mind we do not have sleds so our travel options are limited, where would you guys go and why? Not looking for coordinates, just an idea of where we should spend this limited amount of time and hopefully get on a nice walleye or crappie or jumbo perch bite. Thanks for your help fellow IDO’ers!

The Lions Club is having a fish derby on Lake George in the Eau Galle Rec Area in Spring Valley Wi on the 22ed. $2 entry fee.
That’s where I will be with FW and kids!

    I voted Pokegama.
Excellent sunset and early morning bites for walleyes. The middle of the day not so much of a walleye bite, therefore you could go to any of the many surrounding lakes for panfish, Bowstring for example. I do know for a fact that Pokegama has a few plowed roads to get around easy by vehicle. bring shovel just in case.

I didn’t vote, but Red is really slow right now. Up last weekend and between 5 houses and a dozen people maybe could have been 12 walleyes caught. Heard same reports from many other people I spoke with up there.

Where about’s on the lake were you fishing? I was up there the 3rd weekend in January and had really good luck, but have heard it’s been slow since. We were running portables out of the West Wind access.

Northwest Angle is definitely on my bucket list, but I’d like to spend a few more days there. Is the road system large enough to be able to get away from others if you can’t cross-country with a pickup?

Had some buds do very well off Hillmans roads last weekend on URL. If it were me I’d go with Winnie, should be some bruiser perch showing up shallow, but you’re limited by where the road takes you.

Roadtrip – Lake Winnebago (Battleonbago.org). 2 boats and a new truck given out to 150th place, 400th and 600th i believe. So you need only register a perch or a crappie or whitebass etc to win big. Our group will be chasing walleyes in the flats but you only need to register a fish….any fish to perhaps drive home in a new truck or pulling a new lund walleye rig w 150hp 4 stroke.

It aint LOTW or winnie action but its a great tourney with party, fishfry, bands etc.
