Do you have the line come out the bottom or top of the spool? Ive seen both so not sure if there’s a right way or not.

If I remember right I have seen them both ways, I did search and couldnt come up with the right pictures tho.

After further research I found a pic of the Eagle Claw which is from the top.

I spool mine so that it retrieves in the same direction that a spinning reel or casting reel retrieves. So for me it goes on the bottom on a non geared straight line reel. I think on the geared reels it pulls from the top.

I say bottom too. That’s on the Genz and if I did it the other way, I think I’d have a lot of issues.

So you guys reel backwards? Did that take some getting used to?

It feels kind of odd. I’m still getting use to how long it takes to reel in not having a ratio. Kinda like hand cranking broken landing gear, 358 cranks to move it a 1/4 inch!

    No, don’t reel backwards.

I reel the opposite direction of a spinning reel.

I reel like a normal spinning reel, because I have an inline with a gear ratio and a real handle.

i suppose i could have been more specific. This is an eagle claw so it had ratio and free spool.

Line comes off the top of my eagle claw. Hate the whole damn reel, but that’s for a new topic.

Multiplier inline reels have the line feed from the top. You can’t feed from the bottom on them. A fly style reel with no free spool you can do either way.

My black betty 6061 comes out the top. And my black betty straight reel (no gear reduction) comes out the bottom.

I have both and like them both. I suppose that the ones that feed from the top are better but for me it really does not matter.

I have an Eagle Claw (coupe weeks) and line comes off the top, left hand reel set up with the normal spinning reel turning direction.
