Bago GTG

I really enjoyed everyone’s company today on Bago! It was great to put more faces with names and of coarse, the friendships amongst IDO’rs is incredible. On a very personal note, you guys really got my mind off of the issues at home and this was truly a day of therapy for me!

I think James has jinxed us all when it comes to having a great bite with GTG’s, but hey, when the grill is fired up and keeping the beer from freezing…how can you go wrong? It was very unfortunate that we were all on fish all day, but looker and looker chasing nearly every jig imaginable…with very few takers. Z-man took honors for big fish (at the time I left) with a typical healthy Bago Perch.
Regardless, Al manned the grill and we all got to eat like barbaric pigs Awesome lunch!

Bagoviking – Did you have a red pop-up behind a minni van? If so, sorry we didn’t meet up. I tried to keep an eye out for ya. But with all the traffic, its hard to spot one vehicle amongst the vast area. There was someone set up a couple hundred yards from us that I thought may have been you.

few more pics I had. Sorry about not getting a pic of that beautiful walleye. I’m sure it will grow (or possibly get much smaller) as the story is told

Thanks again for all the good laughs Only in Wisconsin does a man use a grill to keep his beer from freezing!

Yes, I was in a red pop-up behind a tan-gray minivan. Was I really that close?

You were perfectly down wind from the grill. You should have smelled the polish suasage and brats cooking! Seriously, I think that was you. When we gathered for lunch, I was using you as a landmark as guys were driving down the road Bummer, I was looking forward to finally meeting ya.

There is nothing like a good day with old/new friends to take your mind off the everyday stresses of life.

Looks like you all had a great time

Cooked last week Tuesday through Saturday at a wild game feed for kids with cancer. I had to put my beer on the smoker to keep it from freezing. Good news it we raised 11K. so it was worth it.

It appears that a good time was had by all. Sure wish I wasn’t laid-up for the next 4-6 weeks! If it weren’t for that fact, I sure would’ve been there to share in the festivities. Hope you all have a great rest of the ice season. Stay safe and tight lines.

You guys didn’t say you were having brats on the grill!

    Decent weather too.

Dang. I got overwhelmed by the thousands of vehicles out on the lake and gave up trying to guess which group was y’all.

As if on cue, my auger started as soon as it got home. Had I known about the IDO GTG curse, I would have come for the Fox Brothers Sausage and brats instead. Good to meet y’all.

Randy, thanks for putting up some pics of the outing. Too bad we were that close to WinnebagoViking, we did use him as a landmark to regroup for lunch . As was said the fishing was, well, fishing…. But the company and good times were unmatched, good to meet a few new IDO’ers and catch up with old friends. The food was great, those Polish sausages Ed brought were excellent. Travel on the lake wasn’t too bad but I still managed to bury my truck to the bumper blazing a trail off the lake… The weather was ok although a little cool to start the day…we only had a few flurries later in the afternoon so that was a plus. As for using the grill to thaw beers, well this IS Wisconsin and it’ll take more than a little cool weather to keep a man from enjoying a refreshing beverage
Once again thanks everybody for making it a great day and hope to see everyone soon either on the ice or whenever we can get the boats out…(should be before Mothers day I hope )

Castle Rock Clown and his Posse crash the Bago GTG. Thanks to all for inviting us into your group. Fishing was slow, but company was 4 star. Everyone in our group was very happy and wish they were more prepared gear wise to be able to tolerate longer forays outside the shelter and mingle. Again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and on a side note, the birthday girl caught a 6″ walleye later. What a commotion.

Dave, nice to meet you and the gang. I understand completely why your better half was very content to hang out in the condo! When she opened the door, the heat plume rolling out made it look like a sauna. Just standing by the door was a great place to warm up Plus watching all the fish on the camera was probably much more entertaining for her.

Ed & I were talking on the way back about doing a Spring GTG on the Rock River. Possibly celebrate a little warm weather Next time we leave out the “IDO” to avoid the infamous IDO dead bite . Possibly use the bar launch and fire the grills up there…if they aren’t under water this year again

Mark there was plenty of venison sausage and sticks going around just no pics, tough to do when you’re eating with both hands… truly a great time was had by all.
Randy, like the sound of an open water GTG on the rock somewhere. Hopefully we have a relatively slow thaw, but I’m afraid we’ll be dealing with high water for a while this spring….

Jeez we could probably even get Jeff and Andy there for that one. Gonna need bigger grill though we should be able to use the grills for food and a cooler for the beer.

Planning on hitting Fox Lake Saturday. Anyone want to go?

Excellent, it’d be great to see you out there. My challenge will be getting my brother to get his a* out of bed early – he’s got the auger! Anyway, if your son has a smart phone have him get the Navionics app for a couple bucks. It’s the best app on my phone – well worth the money. Someone shared a couple recent waypoints over the deeper water on a 15′ point so I’ll likely start in that area.

Randy, where did you drive out from? Have any trouble? My brother has a 4WD Escape.

I drove out from Blackhawk. BUMPY!!! I was on the east end of the 14/15 foot contour line, a little north of the group along a small point that”s not on a map. Didn’t mark a lot of fish where I was at, but they were better than average for Fox. I have a small group schedule for sat out there that wants to learn more about using plastics. For that, we’ll be in the heart of community areas using cameras. If you get out later, give me a call. I only have a half day scheduled with them.

Will do, good luck, hope to see you then. Pink Northland jiggle bug with pink noodle and single white pike has been the best producer for me for years. I should have broke it out Saturday.
