Strike Master Solo question – gas line

Ok, before anyone thinks the sky is falling and customer service sucks and everything is a POS, NOT THE CASE HERE
I simply over primed it and a gas line popped off. Not even worth a phone call to SM. BUT, was there a retaining clip on the line to the prime bubble or does it simply push on? If I lost one, I need to get one – as simple as that….

Not sure if it had a retainer or not but just use a small ziptie and you’re good to go.

Just looked at mine and there is no retainer from the factory on the gas line.

This was just brought up on another site. No clips. Strikemaster knows of the problem and has a new fuel line available.

How is it possible to overprime it? Not being a smarta$$ but I’ve never even felt what I would consider pressure while priming.

Are they giving them away to new owners?

About the 3rd press of the bubble, I felt pressure building and foolish me, pressed it again and I felt something give. Fired it up and had gas dripping down. Shut down, cleaned up and saw I popped the line off. Simple enough

Here is an unaltered quote from doublehaul on iceshanty.com

Just got off the phone with S.M. customer service. This is from the mouth of customer service- She knew exactly what the problem before I finished my senctence. I guess Solo has had some issues the primer bulb fuel line. The grommet that connects the 2 shrinks in cold weather producing a massive fuel leak. Solo has allready designed a replacement grommit and a larger fuel line for replacement.

When I asked the customer service rep if this is happenning on many of this years power heads? She went quiet…then explained that “the only thing we can do is provide our auger owners with excellent customer service.”

Read between the lines here fellas.

Now I know it is not the exact same scenario that happened to you Randy, but its all the same part. It shrinks and allows the line to simply pop off or fuel to squirt out.

I just want to make sure I understand what you are saying here. When I took my auger out of my truck the other day, i tipped it in such a fashion where the head was slightly tipped down….just then my hand was soaked in fuel. It only happens when the head gets tipped slightly down (and I know you arent supposed to do that but sometimes it has to come out of the pickup at a wierd angle) but I wasnt really sure what was happening. Is this what you are talking about or are you just simply talking about the fuel line coming off??

As shown in the pic, when I pumped it up, the gas line popped off. Slid it on and it runs like a puma

I noticed that your primer line is black rubber. I looked at my Lazer Mag that I got about 3 weeks ago and it has a clear vinyl line from the primer instead. I’d be curious to hear what StrikeMaster’s replacement line is made of.

No clamp on mine either. No problems yet, but I’ve only had mine out once.

I’ve drilled about 100 or so holes with mine. Just got it about 2 weeks ago. I did notice I burn more gas with the larger solo than the techumcha

The solo runs at a higher rpm. When I had my 3hp pro,I ran it at 3/4 throttle turning an 8″ drill. At full throttle, yes it did consume the fuel more.

One thing I noticed with mine,it ran better and smoked a lot less with 87 octane/40:1 mix. When using non-oxy 91(rip-off),it started slower and idled rougher.Strikemaster recommended non-oxy fuel, but I never left it in more than a few weeks.

Non-oxy 91 around here is almost as much as diesel per gallon.Last I looked,it was 3.89 per gallon.
