I have two 788’s one regular and a DI. I can use either one for ice fishing. The only thing you have to change on the DI unit to use it is by changing the sonar setting to 2d. I love having the GPS and chart modes. The circle flasher doesn’t seem as crisp as my marcum though.
It’s nice having one unit to use summer and winter. I’m still learning all the features of the units. Overall it has been good for ice fishing. Got mine at SBC.

I use my 788 and love it, it takes a little playing to figure out all the features but the infinite adjustments is awsome. The only downfall I have found is interference with other units. Having the gps with a contour chip on a bigger definetly makes up for any downfall. That being said if someone offered to trade me my choice of any ice flasher I would turn them down. One thing I recommend is to turn down your backlight whenever possible to save on battery life.

I have a 788ci HDDI. Have went back and forth with HB customer service. Depth readings are all over the place and haven’t been able to get any readings no matter the mode. At this point Im assuming the ducer is bad. Any advice before I send the ducer back.

I just started playing with mine for ice fishing use this season. I purchased the ice ducer and the soft pack for it. I have not fished around other guys using a a marcum or vex yet. So I cant comment on interference yet.

It is OK as a flasher not as good as a LX-7, Showdown, or LX-5 but is OK. But I do like the GPS with the lakemaster chip. But in the end I probaley would never have done it if I could have found a a hand held GPS that could have run a LM chip.

I do not like the soft pack at all. It is difficult to stow away the Ice ducer and to charge the battery. The soft pack was a weak after thought. Almost impossible to get to the battery to charge it. For the price paid it should be a better design.

What I do like is I can use Contour Elite software to pick way points to fish transfer the waypoints to the 788 before I go and have a game plan how I will fish the lake.

Sounds like the ducer to me, unless you are talking about it mounted on your boat then it could be location of the transducer.

I don’t use the flasher. I use the full screen sonar with the RTS screen on the side and use it like a showdown. If you are used to a flasher it might take a little getting used to but its worth it. I like having the sonar recording a short history of what has happened. I know it sounds silly but if you look away for a second you don’t miss anything or you can see how the fish react to the way you’re jigging by how fast the fish move.
