I’m heading up to Lake of the Woods end the last weekend of this month and was wondering how people rig up their dead stick rods. Just a plain hook and minnow or minnow and a jig?It will be my first time up there and normally I don’t use a dead stick so any help will be appreciated.

Dead Stick Rigging

When I dead stick (in Colorado for trout) I like to use a PK spoon, slender spoon, or tingler spoon with a live minnow. This set up does good for me. Good luck

February 4, 2014 at 8:16 pm #1386006Dead stick set up changes day to day up there just like what spoons they will hit one day and not the next.
Slender spoon, vmc tingler, vmc tumbler, I also like to take a gold glow red knockout and take the treble hook off it then tie on about a 3 to 5″ mono line with a red hook.

Stick’em in a rod holder wait for them to bend and let them have it. 32″ works best seems to have some backbone to it. Switch to braid with mono leader helps drive it home.

Up at Red this weekend I will be trying out my first “deadsticking” within the defined rules of the single tackle configuration of 2-3 hooks 9″ apart total with minnows. Maybe a different look than what the fish are used to, can’t wait to try it. Got trebles and some sure sets as well if fail to hook up. Make my own little school of bait fish know what I’m sayin! How sweet to pull up 2 eyes at once, I’d poo myself!!February 6, 2014 at 2:39 pm #1386520Quote:

I raise a motion that we ban the word “Poo”
After the lengthy discussion on the new rig Nhamm I’ll be anxious to hear how it works!February 6, 2014 at 2:59 pm #1386526Quote:

Isnt the definition of a “rig” 2-3 hooks within 9″ (just making sure I read that right)? So your three hooks would have to be 3″ apart each? Be curious to see how it works. I see a lost fish in your future when the top treble catches the bottom of the hole on the way up. Did it many times with a single #10 hook a few years ago, treble is 3 times as likely to catch the ice.

AW, I see your point. Darn, now you got me thinking, shows you how much experience I got on the ice. No matter, worth a shot if nothing else is working.
Doesn’t matter where the hooks are, just all have to be within 9″ from 1st to last
