1/16 oz slender spoon hooks

First off, I am a slender spoon fan. I have thrown the tackle box at fish on tough bites and the slender spoon is usually the one that comes through for me. My one gripe would be the hook quality on the 1/16 oz size. I counted earlier and roughly half of my 1/16 oz spoons (13) have two or fewer hooks left. This usually results from bigger walleyes bending/breaking the hooks and when this happens I usually lose the fish. I have tried using all assortments of bigger spoons, but sometimes the small ones just work better for me.

Now to my question. What size are the treble hooks on the 1/16 oz slender spoon? Just looking at it, it looks like a #14, but I’m not sure. I’m going to order a quality hook to replace all the hooks on the smaller spoons and want to order the right size. Thank you!

I have replaced the hooks on most of my slender spoons. Sorry I can’t remember the size but I went to a store with a hook and sized them that way.

I put size 14 Eagle Claw hooks on mine and it was a little smaller than what was on there. The Eagle Claw trebles run a little smaller than Mustad.

An EC 14 is about the same size as a Mustad 16. So there is some variance from one manufacturer to another.

I would guess that they are a #14

I believe you’re correct because the 1/8oz spoons have a #12 treble. FWIW, I replace the hooks on all my 1/8oz spoons, regardless of brand, with a Gami #10 treble and use those to replace the hooks on my 1/16oz spoons. I like bigger hooks on small spoons cause if I’m using them, I want aggressive biters that don’t care about hook size. Hope this helps, good luck.

    1/16th are #12 hooks, 1/8th #10, 1/4 & 5/16th are #6 Hooks on the Regular Series.

What brand? My 1/16 slenders sure are smaller than a #12 VMC treble… they are the same size as a #14 VMC 9649

Mustad 35647-BR size 14. They will do the job.

For Walleyes, I tend to like bigger hooks.
    I will go to #10 on 1/16 & #8 on the 1/8 Pro Series.
I’ve caught em on the smaller trebles, especially when they are aggressive. Just seems for me that I land more & lose less with the bigger hooks when they are hooked short.

Yep,I put #8 Gamikatsus on my 1/8 th oz slender spoons. Even the pro series hooks are too small IMO.
