Heading up to Red on Friday this week, and would appreciate any info you guys might have….

    1. Have a 597DI I would like to bring up and use for the GPS (Pug ill get those spots to ya soon here) and a sonar. Set it up as if I was vertical jigging and be able to use it as such, but can I just take off the normal transducer and jimmy rig something to get it down the hole? Any type of damage might incur if I do? I icefish maybe 2x a winter and don’t want to invest the $$ in a pack and the iceducer.

    2. I’m a sensitive guy But seriously something about the propane or dryness that gets my sinuses all jacked up every time I spend significant time in a perm. I want to avoid. No issues with ventilation, it happens in every house, nobody else suffers same probs, just me I guess. What could a guy do to avoid this? I’m thinking its the humidity, dryness kills me and with all the booze flowing through my veins ain’t going to help none.

If permanet has a stove or burner, bring a metal pot of some sort and keep water in it creating some moisture in air.
    Always helped me.

I was going to do that but I’m afraid to introduce too much moisture into the air and cause too much condensation on the windows. There’s no wood paneling anywhere so shouldn’t be that big of issue I guess.

Awwww, that’s a good idea too. Between the pot o water and spray that sounds like a winning combo.

I have the same problem! I wasn’t sure if I was just being paranoid or what. For me, it happens whenever I have the buddy heater running in a portable or if I am running the heater in the garage. I haven’t been in a permy this year. Glad to hear I am not alone.

I would think if you could jerry rig the ducer to a small diameter pole (like one of those white driveway markers) and get it to sit at the bottom of the hole pointing down that should work… IDK guess I have never tried anything like that. As for the head unit, you could screw the base to a board or something so it’s not getting banged around a ton. I have been thinking about buying a 2nd power cord for my Elite 7 and installing a ram mount to the tub in my portable and just using the map chip and gps functions and the vexi for sonar. I would say try rigging some thing up that will keep the ducer in correct position and it should work.
Saline should do the trick, or just put a small dab of Vaseline right inside your nostrils, reapply as needed. Good luck!

Used to use a boat locator set up for ice fishing long ago. We would weld a piece of flat onto a bolt then tape the bolt to the blue hydraulic fluid hose. That stuff is flexible so you can get it to set level. We would also glue a small circular level on to the top of the transducer to be sure we had it level. Worked great! Guessing you won’t want to glue the level to your transducer, but we didn’t care as this was our ice fishing unit.
One thing we found was using a boat locator vs. one set up for ice fishing (vexilar, etc) was the amount of power it put out. It would cause other locators in the area to not work. Kinda funny.
    Good luck!

If I were to bust out a tub of Vaseline inside a shack with 4 buddies at 2am I would get punched in the stomache and locked outside before I get the top off. Might just have to do it undercover

VICKS will do the same thing, and it works to keep things open……(if you can stand the smell. I can’t smell, so it doesn’t bother me!)

Maybe I’ll bring both and see what does the trick. Usually in those close quarters after a day or two of wild game feasts, a lil eucalyptus smell might be of relief

Don’t remember those secret clam beds I found on Medicine. Suppose that was months ago I said I would send coords. Found these guys and others on it.

Ha, oh yeah. I might need them so Medicine can get a bit of redemption. Kind of a vague reference since you are talking about red lol.

Did I win a guided trip? At least you just have ADD. I have ADD and a poor memory.
