Everyone should procure an auger extension. The ice is so thick this year even in my neck of the woods that soon it will be nessasary everywhere north of the Mason Dixon line. Also, maybe, just maybe, if we all get one there will be this cosmic shift out of this “polar vortex”. The ice will stop getting thicker, warm rays of sun will caress our uncovered faces, birds will sing, and we will move into that part of the season affectionately known as late ice. Again, purchasing an auger extension just might be what is necessary to tilt the balance in our favor.

I like your optimism but I just looked at the extended forecast and we may have to wait another two weeks to see if things break a little…

Don’t come crying to me when your auger bottoms out and you haven’t broke through.

OK where is the best price on a Strikemaster extension? Maybe I should say where can you find one yet?

Only one I could find was Thorne Bros. 12″ and ordered it. They have 1 left in stock, call and ask them to take it upstairs so they can fill your order!!!

Excellent idea. They are always scarce when you need one. I got mine.

Ouch just picked one up at scheels for my SM. $40 bucks what a kick to the balls. Wish I had time and any mechanical skills seems to be pretty easy to make. I figured I better be safe then sorry not worth losing a day of fishing over not having one.

I would question that price, if you look on their website it’s listed for $27

Too bad their out of stock. Probably raised their prices in store due to demand.

We only have about 7-8 inches unless hell is freezing over I don’t think I have much to worry about.

But I wish it would harden up enough to take my atv out on it.

I am positive this will be the first year for my 4 or 5 years ice fishing where I need an extension. There was maybe 5″ left on my auger in some of the back lakes I’ve been on.

Or, now you go fish the big lakes that don’t freeze as much

The Scheels extension is made for the SM Augers, but it’s not SM’s extension. I would have rather bought the SM brand extension, but they are out of stock at every store I’ve visited. Previous years have shown me I better put my hands on whatever I can at this point, because nobody is re-ordering at this time of the year.

The Scheel’s one is very heavy duty, and plain and simply heavy if that is your thing, and yep, $10 more than the Strikemaster extension – which is not in stock.

But no, Scheels is not taking advantage and jacking the prices. Same price on it in November. As of last Saturday Fargo Scheels had about 15 on the shelf.

If you can’t find an extension you can always use a spud to chop through the last few inches.

This guy claims these are the same ones being sold by Scheels and considerably cheaper. …

This is the first year I have even thought about needing an extension. We have a trip planned next week for northern Wi and thought I better have one just in case. Tried to call Jiffy never got through. Called local fleet farm said they were out. Luckily one a little further away had 4 so I had them hold one for me.
