    Hi Everyone at IDO.

Finally joined after a couple years of lurking this forum. It all started from watching the IDO show from last year, and learning a ton from the shows that Mr. Holst hosts.

I am from Toronto, Canada, and fish year round. Unfortunately, your temperatures(F) and wind(MPH) make no sense to me, but at least we all measure our fish by inches and pounds P

During softwater, I am usually hunting bass and I am usually hunting for lake trout and crappie during the ice season. I usually don’t mind fishing for anything, but my favorite thing is definitely figuring out new basin bites for crappie. I enjoy hole hopping and fishing outside 99% of the time.

For 2014, I am out on the prowl for burbot, and trying to figure out these night time creatures. I look forward to sharing my knowledge, and also soaking in all of the knowledge from each and every one of you (Mr. Holst if you’ll make a burbot show, that would be fantastic! hint hint )

Welcome to the site. Like your idea about a burbot show. Think I have only seen one in all my years of watching fishing shows. Cleaning and cooking a burbot would be great to see on it also. The best fresh water fish I have ever had.

Welcome. I lurk and post. Rarely make it out of Illinois except for Louisiana bayou trips but we share love of crappie. Actually think crappie love me more than I love them. Post up some more pics.

Welcome ec1 plane and simple it’s what you get used to. We have had some pretty nice winters for the most part multiple decades. Winter climate down here is starting to act more like the patterns from childhood. I hauled furs into Winnipeg and Toronto back in the early 90’sice and rember some nasty storms up by the border. Nice fish and keep up the reports I don’t mind being thought of as soft because this weather has me running for cover.

Great post and nice fish, welcome to IDO! Burbot are fun to catch, we get them often on our tip ups when fishing for lakers. I usually set up a quick strike rig with the VMC Sureset trebles and latch them into a frozen Cisco or large shiner and leave them on, or slightly off the bottom. Whether it’s a lake trout or a burbot that takes the bait, it is a win-win when the flag goes up! If you can figure out when and where they are spawning in your local lakes, you will have a blast! Hundreds of “pout” get together and cover the bottom, and if you have enough bait you will have the time of your life!

    Welcome to IDO!

I know I watched a show on Burbot fishing not too long ago, maybe a few years. I wish I could remember who did it. It was interesting because it went into the spawning habits of them getting it on under the ice and their behavior. The show was complete with underwater footage. It was very informative. Too bad I can’t remember what show did it. It kind of makes my post pointless…unless it seeds someone else’s memory and they come up with the show/episode.

My first thought on that show was Gillespie. Second thought was Chip Leer. Think he had a show out a few years back.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Gentlemen! Looks like I’ll be having a good time here!
It sure is cold out there the past week! I will be back out for burbot sometime this week, as the perks of being a student is that you’ll get a flexible schedule to go according to the weather.

    Welcome to IDO man!

The UnCut Angling guys have filmed some burbot fishing fyi.

Only targeted them in open water though, correct?

Gillespie had a show a couple years ago ice fishing lakers and burbot at the same time on a portage lake out of Andy Meyers Lodge on Eagle Lake in Vermillion Bay.

    Welcome aboard ec1!

It looks like you have them dialed in on the Canadian lakes. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and participate, lot’s of good people on here and I tend to learn something new everyday.
